Come and discover this beautiful town high in the mountains of Herrera, Panama, nestled in the Montoso Forest Preserve.

There is so much to see and explore here in Chepo. There are many hiking destinations to mountains and waterfalls. There are great views from within the town itself. The people here are very friendly and will welcome you to stay as long as you like.

The climate here is very cool and refreshing, a welcome break from the heat of the lowlands.

Visit "Las Caras Pintadas", created by Chepo's pre-Columbian inhabitants. These undeciphered petroglyphs lie within the Montoso Forest Preserve.

Hike to the top of the Alto del Higo, the highest point in the province of Herrera, for stunning views of Veraguas and the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day you can also see all the way across the Azuero peninsula to the Bay of Parita in the east. You might even hear some howler monkeys on your hike.

The "Grupo Ambientalista de Turismo" (Environmental Tourist Group) leads guided tours to the Alto del Higo, Caras Pintadas, and the "El Salto" waterfall. Prices range from $30 to $50 per person. Please call (507) 6976-6993 or (507) 6410-7260 to make a reservation.
